Springing Into Florals and Pastels

Blossoming trees, chirping birds, and sunny skies… it’s officially beginning to feel like spring. If you’re like me, you’ve already banished your heavy sweaters and obnoxiously puffy jackets to the back of your closet and are ready to fully embrace the florals, laces, and pastels of the season. Keep reading to see some of the ways that I embrace the flowery and feminine feel of spring.

Put your best foot forward this season by breaking out the strappy sandals and open toed wedges. Pulling out your open toed shoes gives you a good excuse to go get a pedicure as well. Can’t walk around lookin’ like somethin’ out of Shrek… Put some paint on those little piggies!

What is a pair of open toed sandals without a cute spring dress to match?! Floral patterned dresses are a must have for the season! This time of year they are not at all difficult to find. If you are lacking in flower power, Loft has some adorable new dresses out for this season that you can check IMG_2151out here. After scoping out the new arrivals on their website I’m ready for a spring inspired shopping spree! Another must have for this season are off the shoulder tops. For me personally, anything flowy wins!

Spring is a great opportunity to mess around with pastel shadows, eyeliners, and lipsticks. While pastels are beautiful in their simplicity, there are a few ways to spice it up. If I were to do a pinky orange shadow and felt it needed a little extra somethin’, adding a silver, glitter eyeliner would solve the crisis in a jiffy. While I don’t typically wear bright colors on my face, during springtime I can sometimes get away with a light blue or yellow shadow.

Spring is such a beautiful season full of growth and new beginnings. New colors and smells, beautiful weather, and creatures come out during this time.  I am a senior in high school graduating in May, and am currently getting ready to begin a whole new life. I encourage you all to enjoy each season you are in. Get up every morning, style your hair, do your makeup, and tell yourself you look beautiful. Enjoy each chapter of your life and don’t hesitate to seize each day…and look fabulous while you do it.

Hope you will share with me how you transition into spring styles! I would love to see your latest spring fashion and beauty steals. Thanks for reading!

How to be Lookin’ Fine on the Day of Love

Ladies the love month is upon us! Now I am well aware that this is a controversial holiday. For some, when they think of Valentine’s Day they have a vision of chocolates and snuggling with the boo. Whereas others such as myself watch all the happy couples and adopt the motto “fries before guys” for the day. Regardless of your relationship status on Valentine’s Day, there ain’t no rule sayin’ you can’t look cute. If you aren’t in a relationship, all the more reason to slay the day!

For Valentine’s Day, most wear red and pinky colors to go with the scheme of the holiday. I don’t know about you all, but I will take any and every opportunity to rock some of my fave lipstick from Este Lauder in the shade “True Red”. A cute red top and white jeans with a pair of wedges would be my ideal Valentine’s outfit. For this occasion, what we DO NOT want is a bunch of heavy, dark makeup. Light and elegant is the idea. So for me that generally means a white and pink shadow from my Tarte in Bloom palette with a brown liner. Although this is a simple look, the red lipstick really brightens it up and ties it all together. If you are feeling a little extra, go ahead and add a little sparkle to either your lids or the inner corners of your eyes. For a little sparkle I typically use my Photo Ready Eye Art liner/lid glitter from Revlon.  Hair wise, you want something soft and elegant. My go to look is a half up, half down loose curly look. You will get the best results by curling your hair with a flat iron. This works with both long and short hairstyles.

I hope these ideas help you to look and feel absolutely adorable on Valentines.  Even if you don’t have a boyfriend to love on for the occasion, love yourselves and those who make life a little easier. You are worth just as much as an individual as you are when you’re with someone else. Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love in general, let’s not limit the love to one person in our lives. Have a wonderful Valentine’s day my lovely ladies.

Entering the New Year in Style

This year has been a crazy one for sure and I don’t know about you all, but I’m so incredibly excited that 2017 is almost upon us!!! While saying goodbye to 2016 and everything it held is a little sad, I plan to jump headfirst into this next year in style. Because many of us end up dressing up and going out in celebration of the new year, I thought it was appropriate to offer up a few pointers on how to start the year out looking and feeling great for new years eve!

Style Those Locks: At New Year’s parties and get togethers, there tends to be ungodly amounts of food that you inevitably end up eating a ton of. Because of all of the food I know I will most likely consume, I Iike to style my hair in a way that it will be out of my face and away from my mouth. One of my favorite ways to do this is to curl my whole head away from my face in loose curls with my flat iron, and then clip the hair around the crown of my head back. This hairstyle is both conventional and classy.

Dress Yo-self: As much as I would love to go watch the ball drop in New York for myself, it just hasn’t happened yet. I normally end up having a nice little get together with my family and neighbors. My go to outfit for an event like this would be a pair of jeans, boots of some sort, and a warm, large sweater (So you can’t tell how much food I really ate). Just something that is cute, cozy, and casual. If I’m really feeling it I will throw a cute/festive hat or scarf on top to give the outfit a little character. However if you do plan on going out to celebrate, I would wear something a little nicer.

Glam Ya Face: My favorite part about occasions like New Years is that there is always an excuse to wear glitter. There is truly no better way to kick off the year than with a little sparkle. I like to start with my usual foundation routine and finish with a little blush and highlighter to give me a rosy glow. I then prime my eyes and start with a light crème shadow base color. I move into a darker brown in my crease and then a matte black shadow on the outer corner of my eye. So basically a smoky eye… but with a little flare. Once I finish the traditional smoky eye and hit it with some black, liquid, winged liner, I break out the gold glitter. I basically put the glitter wherever my hScreen Shot 2016-12-31 at 5.03.17 PM.pngeart leads me to put the darn glitter. But to give you a general idea of where to start, I would typically put the glitter on my inner corner and on the front half of my eyelid. I would then finish my eyes with a coat of black mascara (and natural looking fake lashes if I’m feelin’ it). Because the eye look is so bold, I would recommend just doing a natural colored lip liner and gloss.

I hope this helps you all out a bit for New Year’s. If you end up using any of my tips, tag me on social media. I’d love to see how you add a little sparkle to the occasion! I wish you all a fun and safe New Year!

Until Next Time,

Long-lasting Lipstick

Do you ever get tired of putting on expensive lip product, just to go out and rub it all off? Well yeah… same. What if I told you there were methods to keeping it on? I have a few little tricks to keeping your lip product on for as long as up to all day. If you feel like you are wasting your money on products that look great, but don’t seem to last, these tips are just for you!

Tip #1: This tip has been a total lifesaver when wearing a lipstick that has a more soft and creamy texture. Once you apply your lip product, put a tissue on your lips and gently pat either a general face powder or translucent powder over the tissue. What this does is sets and creates a matte finish on the lipstick.

Tip #2: When I thought this tip through, it honestly seemed like a no brainer. We prime every other part of our faces, so why not prime your lips as well?! Simply using a lip primer before applying any lip product can make your color last longer.

Tip #3: This is a simple but more expensive fix to the issue at hand. Instead of buying the same products that don’t always work, invest in a lip stain. I can honestly say that these work a lot better than a typical lipstick. If you want to try a product of this type, I recommend Stila brand, they rock.

Tip #4: This one is less trick, more tip. Filling in your lips with liner can make a big difference. The liner sort of acts as a base for the lipstick, so that even if the lipstick rubs off, there is a backup layer of product to keep the color.

Tip #5: This last tip is something you should actually be doing daily. Before you put any colored lip product on, it never hurts to hit your lips with a little bit of lip balm. This makes your lips a nice, soft surface to smooth the product onto. When your lips are dry and then you put more product on top of it, it is ultimately going to dry your lips out more.

If you try any of these tips out, I would love to hear your feedback on how they worked out for you! Feel free to contact me through my social media or leave a comment on this page. Thank so much for reading!

Until next time XOXO,

Fall Statements and Styles

Different people see varying aspects of seasons depending on their preferences. For example, when some people think of summer, they think of lounging by the pool, getting a nice tan, and drinking ice cold lemonade. Whereas when others envision Summer, they think sunburn, sweat, and mosquitos. The same can be said about the other seasons for various people. While you are 100% entitled to your opinions and feelings, if you don’t like fall, we simply cannot be friends. Not really, but like how could you not like fall? Fall to me is warm sweaters, cozying up by the fire, and pumpkin spice lattes; there is no way I’d rather spend such a beautiful season.

Fall Colors

Now that my favorite time of year has rolled around, it’s time to break out my deeper colors, thicker and softer fabrics, and long sleeve tops to keep me nice and cozy in the cooler weather! Some of the most common and basic fall colors are red, orange, mustard, and brown tones. But my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE color to wear in the fall is maroon. Maroon and brown are my go-to colors for fall and I honestly don’t think that is ever going to change. But it’s always fun to look for popular trends to try out. To feel out what the season’s color trends are going to be, I like to check what the Pantone colors of the season are in order to utilize Pantone as my personal color guide. Some of my personal favorite Pantone Fall shades for 2016 are Warm Taupe, Dusty Cedar, and Potter’s Clay. These colors are tones that I would wear in my everyday fall hair, makeup, and clothing.

Fall Styles

Knee High Boots

Some styles you certainly wouldn’t want to forget about during the fall season include long sleeve tees with skinny jeans paired with a scarf and knee high boots, thick leggings with long tees put with a cozy coat and knee high boots, and then the occasional short dress with tights and knee high boots. Why do all of these outfits include knee high boots you may ask? Because it’s not fall without knee high boots!!! Seriously though, if you don’t own a pair of knee high boots: I highly suggest that you invest in a pair. You’ll wear them all the time, they’ll keep your feet warm, and you can wear the ugliest, most comfortable pair of fuzzy socks you own underneath them and no one even has to know.

Booties and Bell Sleeves

While these basic fall outfits are great, it’s always fun to play with your style a little bit. This year, bell sleeved tops are the latest fall trend that you don’t want to overlook. I personally love the look of the flared sleeves and normally pair it with some skinnies and my favorite taupe half booties or flats, then spice it up with some cute jewelry.

Neutrals With a Pop

Another trend that I adore is putting together solid tops with patterned shoes! I tend to like to pair neutral tones with other neutral tones. So for example, a white top with a nude sweater over it, black skinny jeans, and a pair of cheetah print shoes. If you want venture out and find more fall styles that are more for you, I totally encourage you to do that.

Thanks so much for reading! Until next time.

Finding Foundation

Hello and welcome! Since I have just launched my blog and am in the building process, I figure that I should start off with a solid FOUNDATION (insert winky face). But for real… those of us that are well versed in the medium of foundation know that using the correct kind as well as executing the application properly can make or break your entire look. “How hard can smearing some stuff on your face be?” you may ask. Oh trust me, there is more than meets the eye. There are a few factors that go into having a successful foundation routine. First off, shade of choice. When you go to purchase a foundation, you never EVER want a color that is darker than your natural skin tone. This terrible mistake is what causes foundation lines where you can clearly see where a girls glowing tan skin gets about three shades lighter. To avoid this problem, match your foundation to your skin tone, and if in doubt go lighter. I promise you that you do not have to be tan to be beautiful. Second is the consistency of the foundation. There are lots of options as far as types of foundations you can choose from. My personal preference is a more light and creamy consistency, as it goes on smooth and doesn’t require too much blending. What you most definitely do not want is a foundation that is too thick and cakey. It is okay to get something with more coverage if that is what you want, but don’t buy a product that is going to act as a second skin. I would recommend a Clinique brand foundation if you want something lighter, but still with enough coverage. Lastly is the application process. What you don’t want to do is put too much on and get a wet shiny look. To prevent this from happening, what I do is put a small dot of foundation on each cheek, one on my chin, forehead, and on the bridge of my nose. This will help you to evenly distribute just the right amount of foundation all over your face. Once you have you foundation on and properly blended, it’s always a good idea to follow up with concealer on problem areas and a light dusting of powder all over your face. If you follow these few foundation basics, you should definitely be on the right track! The last tip I have for you that can totally change the end result of your blending is to invest in a beauty blender. They are like a compact sponge that blends your makeup better than a brush, or even your fingers. You can purchase these at larger makeup stores like Ulta. That’s all for finding your foundation! If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to express them! Thanks for reading!

Laurel Alane

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Laurel and I just want to start off by sharing with you a little bit about me and my purpose in starting a blog. I am  creative, quirky, and especially passionate about music, writing, and caffeine… can I get an AMEN?! I love to do just about anything that is considered a creative art. While I could have chosen to blog about anything in that general realm, I decided to write about beauty. I do in fact consider any form of beauty an art. The reason I love hair and makeup is not because I feel any sort of need to cover myself up, and neither should you. I enjoy it because it is simply a form of art… just on your face. I love that different cosmetics and styles can be used to enhance your naturally beautiful features and give you a different look or feel. My goal in starting this blog is to encourage, inspire, and uplift those who read it. Although you may have heard it before, you are beautiful despite your own perception of yourself. After all, beauty is found in the cultivation of accepting your true self.
